Experience
Are you or your child looking for help with writing college application essays? Trying to improve at paper writing at the high school or collegiate level? Preparing to take the SAT or GRE? Struggling with statistics at the high school, collegiate or graduate level? If you are, I'm here to help! As a sociology PhD student, I am a professional writer, critical reader and teacher, with training in graduate level social science statistics. In achieving this level of education, I've developed highly-honed organizational, revision and test prep skills. My professional experience includes five years of tutoring and 1 year of teaching at the collegiate level. Importantly, I have not just experience but a passion for helping others further develop their critical reading, writing, testing, and organizational skills and abilities. To give you a further sense of my qualifications: - I scored in the 96th percentile or higher on the SAT and GRE reading and writing sections, received a 4 on the AP English Literature and Composition exam and a 5 on the AP US History exam - I have five years of writing tutoring experience at the collegiate level, working one on one with students to not just improve specific assignments but to further develop stronger organizational, revision and critical reading skills. In this capacity I completed a semester of specialized training in writing tutoring, including the global revision process, working with ESL students, collegiate writing, and critical reading skills. - I also serve as an instructor for college discussion sections, working with 3 sections of 20 college students to develop critical reading and writing skills through discussion and providing detailed feedback on papers. In this capacity, I completed a week long training on collegiate grading and teaching. - I completed 2 semesters of statistics coursework at the undergraduate level and 2 semesters of statistics coursework at the graduate level. - I have extensive experience working with high school students as a camp counselor, swim coach and instructor, a tennis instructor and in conducting interviews as a researcher. - In my role as a graduate student, I read approximately 500-1000 pages a week for content and connections and write approximately 100 - 300 pages a semester.
