Experience
I am a 2009 graduate of the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and I simultaneously earned a teaching certification in the university’s Teachers for Elementary and Middle School Program. After I received my certification, I worked in low income districts for English and Math at the sixth through eighth grade levels. I was able to actively engage students in their daily education and to work with them in one-on-one settings within the classroom. I collaborated with their teachers to help create lesson plans and to develop materials to assist the students in their individual educational needs. The work I completed showed me that I have a special knack for working with students in a small group or individual setting, because I was able to create a connection with the students on a level that cannot be made in a classroom. This connection allowed me to create a plan to individually advance their educational learning paths. I have since received a Master of Education degree and certification in Secondary English. Currently, I work at one of Maine's top high schools, where I teach all subjects across all grades. I thoroughly enjoy the rewarding work of teaching and look forward to school every day, because there is always a new challenge or experience awaiting me.
